NYT-led group asks judge to sanction OpenAI over hidden evidence

The New York Times, the Daily News and other outlets filed a motion on July 9 asking a federal judge to sanction OpenAI, escalating a landmark copyright fight over how ChatGPT and Microsoft's AI systems were trained on news content.

The plaintiffs allege OpenAI told the court it could not search its models for copyrighted material, while internal evidence shows it had already done so before the first lawsuit was even filed.
